Tears had been close to the surface since she'd opened her eyes this morning. Now they flowed down her cheeks, but for very different reasons. "I don't know how to thank you, Alex. And I can't begin to tell you what this means to me, what it would have meant to him."

Hidden from the other woman, and from everyone else, was the anger at him for the things he missed because he gave up, because she wasn't enough to keep his grief from overcoming him.
