One of the things Levi didn't like about not having a partner was that sometimes it would really be nice to have some backup. His latest ex-partner, the were-yak, hadn't worked out so well, constantly having to stop and eat grass and all the time. Maybe it wasn't so bad, because he had really, really smelled bad.

Right now, he was wandering around some sort of creepy, empty warehouse in the middle of night with no backup, hunting down what likely was a really sick and twisted serial killer. He'd been tracking whoever it was for months now. Dead bodies torn apart almost surgically, literally pulled apart from what looked like human hands. That made it his type of case.

His gun drawn, Levi continued to circle toward the center of the warehouse in a spiral pattern, but really it was like looking for a needle in a really dark and echo-y warehouse. There was a good chance that he was going to end up with his body ripped apart, this wasn't exactly something that being able to read a mind could help with. It was times like this that he wished he'd practiced more with his ability, maybe he'd be able to scan the area or something.

But he couldn't stop because it was scary or dangerous, because if he didn't stop whoever or whatever it was, more people would die, and he couldn't let that happen.

Bella followed Vlad into the warehouse with a sigh. She really, really hoped he didn't have a snack in there. She was pretty sure this particular leech was up to no good because he looked entirely too smug to pass for undead. That, and he hung out with too many humans. A vamp that could tolerate that kind of proximity without even a wince was a well-fed vamp. And since she hadn't run into him in the forest, or a carcass with human-like bite marks at the throat that she hadn't drained, she doubted he was being a good boy.

Yeah, there were all kinds of vamps here. Some that could sip and not drain, some that used bites as seduction, whose victims got off on the bites and didn't die from them. Then there were others like her, the ones that had bites that killed. As far as she knew, though, she was the only one with venom, and the only one that looked like a quartz rock when the sun was out.

None of that was here nor there, though, because she'd stepped into the warehouse and the smell hit her at once. Fuck. There was a human in here. Whether it was Vlad's dinner, his toy, or just some poor dolt in the wrong place at the wrong time. Bella looked over her head, happy to see scaffolding and walkways up there. Perfect vantage. She jumped and made it onto the walkway without a sound, pacing Vlad as he moved through the place.
